Project Description: |
| RPI
was responsible for the training and assisting in the technical
specifications for the World Bank loan program for solar home
systems (SHS) in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. The training was "a
train the trainers" course on solar home systems: their
specifications, installation, maintenance, and operations. This
course became the basis for continued training of technicians
in these countries as a qualification for companies to participate
in the World Bank SHS program. |
Applications: |
| Solar
home systems |
Sponsors: |
| World
Bank, Institute of International Education, US AID |
Results: |
| These World Bank initiatives, now five years old, has resulted in the installation and financing of thousands of solar home systems (SHS) in the both countries. The specifications were an important tool to insure that systems would operate properly, have a long life, and provide the specified electricity for the loads, such that the customers would be satisfied and the loans would be repaid. The technical training insured that there would be an infrastructure in place to service and support the initiative. |
